Should I Send My Child to Dream Camp?

Dear Parents,

Registration is now open for Adaptive Sports Ohio’s annual Dream Camp, an overnight adaptive sports camp for youth ages 7-18 with a physical disability. I understand the hesitation you may have about sending your child away for an entire weekend, especially if a camp setting may be a new experience for them, but let me try to set your mind at ease.

Summer camp, for me, brings back fond memories of carefree days, fun new experiences, and making new friends. As a child, summer camp was something I looked forward to every year. I’d convince my parents to plan family vacations around it, and any other obligations were secondary the week of camp. There was just something special about camp that allowed me to feel I could be myself, even around new people. It was a place where I always felt accepted, and it pushed me to meet new people and try new things. I think every child should get to have that same exciting experience, which is why I’m thrilled that I can help provide that for others through Adaptive Sports Ohio’s Dream Camp this summer. Our goal for camp is that every child will leave having made lasting friendships and lifelong memories.

This year, Dream Camp will take place July 9-11, 2021 at Recreation Unlimited in Ashley, Ohio. The Recreation Unlimited campus was built specifically for individuals with disabilities and is completely accessible. During this overnight camp, kids will participate in activities such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair softball, adaptive track & field, swimming, kayaking, high ropes, campfire, dance, games and more!

Caregivers are welcome to attend with their camper, and a nurse will be available onsite throughout camp. Activities will be led and supervised by Adaptive Sports Ohio staff with the help of a few of our adult athletes selected to attend as camp counselors. The registration fee for campers is $150 per camper and an additional $150 per caregiver, which would cover the cost of all meals and lodging. However, the camp experience is truly priceless. All equipment will be provided, but campers are also welcome to bring their own.

Don’t let this opportunity pass by, because it could be a life-changing experience. Register for camp today! Every kid deserves to have a fun summer camp experience! If you’re still unsure and have additional questions, please contact me via email or call (330) 601-1400.

Sincerely,

Brooke Keber
